Movie Mode
If you would like to record video on the digital camera that you buy then it will need to have movie mode included, this works in much the same way as a camcorder and is a very cool feature so is well worth looking for when buying a digital camera.
When you buy a digital camera with movie mode then there are a few things to look out for, the first is the resolution of the digital camera which is measured in megapixels. The more megapixels the digital camera has the more detail the video and photos will have so the better quality the video will be, this will be more apparant when the video is viewed on your television or a computer as the video will be enalrged allot. So it is a good idea to get a digital camera with an as high a megapixel rating as you can as the video will be of a better quality and so will the photos.
There are also other aspects of a digital camera that affects the movie mode, one of these is whether the digital camera has a microphone and speakers built into the digital camera. If you digital camera has a microphone then your video will include sound and this is well worth looking out for as movie mode is just not the same without sound, most digital cameras with movie mode so have a microphone but some of the cheap models do not so it is best to check. The speakers are only important for watching your videos on the digital camera's LCD screen so that you can hear the sound that was recorded, this is not as important as you will still be able to hear the sound when you watch the video through your television or computer but speakers are still a nice feature to look out for when buying a movie mode digital camera.
The amount of video that you can store on your digital camera using movie mode depends on two things, firstly you are limited by the amount of memory that you have as the video is stored on your digital camera's memory in the same way that your photos are stored. Video takes up allot of space though so you will need allot of memory if you wish to film lots of video, you have to consider that this video is made up of several frames per second which are just like photos and video also includes sound so you can see why they take up so much memory. Luckily large memory cards are quite cheap these days so you can quite easily buy a cheap memory card that has lots of storage space for your video, buying a large memory card nearly always needed to film lots of video as most digital cameras come with memory cards or internal memory that are not very large. The other thing that limits your video filming is that some digital cameras have a set limit on the length of video clip that you can record, this is irrespective of the amount of memory that you have so try to avoid such limits of you like movie mode digital cameras.
