Pictbridge Digital Cameras
Printing digital photographs has always been one of the drawbacks of digital photography, you had to connect your digital camera to your computer and then print the photos using your computer and the printers were often not up to the standard of printing good quality photos.
This is where Pictbridge comes in, it enables you to connect your digital camera directly to the printer and print digital photographs easily, most Pictbridge printers offer photo quality printing so top quality along with ease of use is assured. To use the Pictbridge feature you have to have a digital camera with the Pictbridge technology
and a printer that also has the Pictbridge technology, if your camera or printer lacks the Pictbridge feature then you will not be able to use the Pictbridge feature. The great thing about Pictbridge is that you can mix brands, it has been possible in the past to connect digital cameras and printers of some brands to each other but you had to connect to the same brand as they had their own systems but with Pictbridge you can connect
any Pictbridge digital camera to
any Pictbridge printer so you have much more choice when buying digital photography equipment. There are lots of brands that offer Pictbridge digital cameras and they include Canon, Sony, Kodak, Nikon, HP, Samsung, Olympus and many others.
There are also other considerations with Pictbridge digital cameras, one is that there are standard Pictbridge features that all Pictbridge cameras and printers support and there are then advanced features that only some cameras and printers support so it is a good idea to make sure that your Pictbridge digital camera and Pictbridge printer have matching features. The basic features that all Pictbridge digital cameras and Pictbridge printers have are the ability to print a single image and the two devices having the same error messages so it is easy to understand if anything goes wrong. There are then lots of advanced features that
some Pictbridge digital cameras and Pictbridge printers support such as printing several images, printing all of the images stored in the camera, printing several copies of one image, the ability to choose the size of the image printed, printing only parts of an image and adding a date stamp to the image. So for example if you buy a Pictbridge digital camera and it has some of these advanced features then you should buy a Pictbridge printer that matches these features so that you can use them as both devices need to support the advanced feature for you to be able to use that feature.
Using the Pictbridge feature is very easy, all you need to do is connect your Pictbridge digital camera to your Pictbridge printer using the provided USB cable (and obviously take some photos first!). When you connect the devices the software automatically recognises the devices and compares their features to see which match so that they can be used and then displays them on the LCD screen of the digital camera, you then simply choose an option such as print all images or choose an image to print and the command is sent to the printer and it is completed automatically.
So Pictbridge is a very good feature to look for when buying a digital camera as it makes printing digital photos so easy, this has been a barrier in the past to lots of people using digital cameras but this should no longer be the case.
