Self Timers

One of the problems with photography is that someone has to take the photo so there's always someone missing from the picture, this can be overcome though by using a digital camera that has a self timer.

The principle of the self timer on digital cameras is very simple, you position the camera, press the shoot button and then move into the picture and wait for the photo to be taken. To use the self timer on your digital camera all you need to do is choose the self timer option and choose the time delay, the delay setting is important as it is the amount of time that you have to get into the picture so you have to make sure that you have enough.

Common settings for the self timer are 2, 5 and 10 seconds and most digital cameras have more than one delay setting so you can choose one that suits your circumstances, it is important to choose the shortest time possible though as photos are never as good if everyone is waiting around for the photo to be taken. Most digital cameras with a self timer have a cue to let the people know that the photo is about to be taken, this is usually a pattern of lights with faster blinking of the light indicating that the photo is about to be taken, this is very useful as it makes people aware that the photo is about to be taken so they can prepare for that.
